What is the Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL)?
The Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) is a financial contribution that developers are required to pay when certain types of new development take place. These funds are collected by West Berkshire Council and are used to help deliver the infrastructure and services needed to support growth in the area – such as transport improvements, schools, green spaces, and community facilities.
How CIL Benefits Our Parish
When development occurs within our parish, a portion of the CIL collected is passed on to the Parish Council. This funding allows us to invest in projects that directly benefit our local community – enhancing public spaces, supporting local initiatives, and improving facilities.
Because our parish has an adopted Neighbourhood Development Plan, we now receive an increased share of CIL receipts. Instead of the standard 15%, we are entitled to 25% of the CIL generated by developments in our area. This higher rate reflects the additional planning work we’ve undertaken to shape the future of our community.
Transparency and Reporting
We are required by law to publish an annual report detailing how much CIL we’ve received and how it has been spent. These reports help ensure transparency and accountability in how we manage these public funds.
