Following recent budget proposals by West Berkshire Council, we are pleased to hear that the Downlands Sports Centre will remain open. This decision ensures that our community will continue to benefit from the valuable services and facilities offered by the Centre.

West Berkshire Council’s spending plans for 2025-26 initially included the removal of the Downlands Sports Centre from the Leisure Management Contract. However, after careful consideration of the responses to the consultation from Compton Parish Council, The Downs School, and many members of our community, the proposal to close the facility has been reversed. This outcome is a testament to the importance of the Centre in promoting health and well-being among residents.

The Downlands Sports Centre provides a range of activities and services that are essential for the physical and mental well-being of our community. We are committed to supporting the Centre and ensuring it continues to serve as a hub for sports and leisure activities.

We encourage all residents to make use of the facility and participate in the various activities it offers to help sustain it for future generations.

We also call on the management of the Downlands Sports Centre to make use of all possible advertising avenues to ensure the venue is well used. By effectively promoting the Centre, we can maximise its potential and provide the best possible experience for our community.
