West Berkshire Council is currently consulting on proposed changes to on‑street parking restrictions across several towns and villages as part of Traffic Regulation Order Amendment No. 39. Two of the proposed amendments relate specifically to Compton:

  • Plan AW24 – Burrell Road, School Road and Shepherds Mount
  • Plan AV24 – Road south of Fairfield

The consultation remains open until 30 October 2026, and full details can be viewed on the West Berkshire Council’s website: Draft Parking Review

Parish Council Position

Compton Parish Council has now submitted its formal response. In summary:

  • Burrell Road / Shepherds Mount (AW24) The Parish Council supports the introduction of No Waiting at Any Time restrictions at the east end of Burrell Road and at its junction with Shepherds Mount. The Council notes that parking in this area causes congestion, restricts visibility and creates a road safety risk, particularly at school drop‑off and pick‑up times. The response also highlights that restrictions alone may not resolve the wider parking pressures around the Primary School and in nearby streets. The Council has asked West Berkshire Council to consider complementary measures such as improved crossing arrangements, clearer direction to alternative parking areas and better management of school‑time parking.
  • Road south of Fairfield (AV24) The Parish Council supports the proposed extension of No Waiting at Any Time restrictions south of Fairfield. Vehicles parking close to the brow of the hill reduce visibility and present a clear safety concern. The Council previously raised this issue in November 2025 and considers the proposal consistent with its wider position that parking and highway safety should be addressed where visibility is compromised.
