Have Your Say – Initial Results from the Compton Housing Needs Survey

Read the initial results of our Housing Needs Survey and find out how you can also respond to the survey.

Published: 26 June 2025

Thank you to everyone who has taken the time to complete the Compton Parish Housing Needs Survey. As of the 24th June, we’ve received 157 postal responses, representing 24% of all households in the parish – a strong early response that reflects just how important this issue is to our community.

What Have We Learned So Far?

While full analysis is still ongoing, some early findings are already emerging:

  • Housing Need Is Real and Immediate
34 households reported that someone in their home will need alternative accommodation within the next five years.
Of these, 8 said they need a new home immediately.
    Common reasons include:

    • Setting up a first or independent home
    • Wanting to buy a home locally
    • Needing to live closer to family
    • Needing a larger or smaller home
  • People Are Leaving the Parish
11 respondents shared that 28 individuals have had to leave Compton in the past five years due to the lack of suitable or affordable housing. While this figure isn’t definitive, it highlights a trend that many in our community may already recognise.
  • Strong Support for Local Affordable Housing
A clear theme emerging is community support for affordable homes for people with a local connection to Compton. We hope to be able to use this information to help shape upcoming development in the village, ensuring it meets real local needs.
