Presenting the council's neighbourhood plan status and documents.

Compton Neighbourhood Development Plan – Adopted

We are delighted to confirm that the Compton Neighbourhood Development Plan (NDP) has been completed and formally adopted by West Berkshire District Council. This means the plan now carries full statutory weight and will be used to guide planning decisions in our parish.

Community Decision

  • On 10 February 2022, residents voted in a referendum.
  • 588 voted Yes, 9 voted No (turnout: 48.9%).
  • With this strong support, the plan came into force and is now part of the Development Plan for West Berkshire.

Who Created the Plan?

Although the Parish Council initiated and supported the process, the real work was carried out by a Steering Group made up of parish residents.

  • They surveyed households and businesses.
  • They engaged with the community through events and consultations.
  • They drafted the policies and wrote the plan itself.

This community‑led approach ensured the plan reflects the views, priorities, and aspirations of Compton residents.

What Is a Neighbourhood Development Plan?

Neighbourhood development plans are community‑led documents that set out how land should be used and developed in a local area. They:

  • Shape housing, design, heritage, and environmental priorities.
  • Give residents a stronger voice in planning decisions.
  • Sit alongside the district’s Local Plan, carrying statutory weight.

Thank You

Compton Parish Council warmly thanks:

  • The Steering Group for their dedication and countless hours of work.
  • Residents and businesses who contributed through surveys and events.
  • West Berkshire Council and the independent examiner for their support.

This has been a true community achievement.
