Here’s a short update on what your Parish Council has been working on recently:

🏘️ Housing Needs Survey – Next Steps

Thank you once again to everyone who took part in the Compton Parish Housing Needs Survey (HNS). With 157 responses received, community engagement has been strong and continues to inform our work.

While full analysis by the Community Council for Berkshire (CCB) is still underway, the Parish Council will begin using the HNS initial findings to open discussions with West Berkshire Council. These early insights will support the case for affordable homes for those with a local connection and will be used as evidence in relation to any major planning applications within the parish—including proposals for the Institute and the Baxter site.

We’ll share further updates once the final report is available.

⚽ Sports Pavilion Improvements – Completed

We’re pleased to report that the new flooring at the Sports Pavilion has now been successfully installed. The upgraded surface is already making a positive difference – improving warmth, comfort, and ease of maintenance for all users. The Parish Council is grateful to the funders and donors who made this project possible.

📚 Compton Pop-Up Library – Everyone Welcome

The Compton Pop-Up Library takes place on the second Thursday of every month from 10:15 am to 11:45 am at the Village Hall. It’s a welcoming space where you can browse and borrow from a varied selection of books – just drop in and see what’s on offer.

If you’re not yet a member of West Berkshire Libraries, you can join during your visit. And if you let them know the kinds of books you enjoy, they will tailor a selection for you next time.

The Parish Council is currently reviewing usage figures to help determine whether funding can be included in next year’s budget. Every visit helps show the value of this service.

We currently have three vacancies on the Parish Council. With major developments ahead, it’s more important than ever to have a full council representing a range of voices. If you’re passionate about Compton’s future and want to help shape it, we encourage you to apply.
